Candle Care 101: How to Make the Most of Your Flickering Bliss Candles

Posted by christian maxwell on

A beautifully crafted candle can transform your space, soothe your mood, and elevate your ambiance. But did you know that how you care for your candle can impact its performance and longevity? Whether you're a candle connoisseur or new to the art of candle burning, these tips will help you enjoy every flicker of your Flickering Bliss candles.

1. Trim the Wick for a Cleaner Burn

Before lighting your candle, always trim the wick to about 1/4 inch. This prevents the flame from burning too high, reduces soot, and helps your candle burn evenly. Use a wick trimmer or scissors for precision.

2. Let It Melt Across

When lighting your candle for the first time, allow the wax to melt evenly across the entire surface. This process, called creating a "memory burn," prevents tunneling—a common issue where the candle burns down the center, wasting wax along the sides.

3. Keep Your Candle Clean

Dust and debris can accumulate on the surface of your candle, affecting its performance. Before each use, check for any bits of wick trimmings or dust, and remove them carefully.

4. Mind the Burn Time

For optimal performance, burn your candle for no longer than 3-4 hours at a time. Overburning can cause the wick to mushroom, leading to excessive soot and uneven burning.

5. Location Matters

Place your candle on a flat, heat-resistant surface away from drafts, fans, and air vents. Drafts can cause uneven burning, flickering, or even splattering of wax.

6. Safety First

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended.
  • Keep candles out of reach of children and pets.
  • Avoid placing candles near flammable materials, like curtains or paper.

7. Extinguish with Care

When it's time to extinguish your candle, use a snuffer or gently blow it out. This prevents wax splatter and keeps the wick in good shape for the next burn. Avoid using the lid or water to extinguish your candle.

8. Enjoy Every Last Bit

When only about 1/2 inch of wax remains at the bottom of your candle, it's time to retire it. Burning beyond this point can cause overheating, which may damage the container. Consider repurposing the jar for storage or decor!

Bonus Tip: Reviving Old Candles

Have a candle with wax left but no wick? Place it on a candle warmer to enjoy the fragrance without lighting it!

Care for Your Candle, Care for Your Bliss

A little care goes a long way in enhancing your candle experience. By following these tips, you'll ensure your Flickering Bliss candles burn beautifully and last longer, allowing you to enjoy their luxurious fragrances to the fullest.
